Creating a Ring Group
Ringing multiple devices
A Ring Group, or Hunt Group, is a group of devices or users that ring at the same time or with a delay based on the same criteria, such as a certain Number is dialed, or Automated Attendant option is pressed. Creating a Ring Group in UC-Line is simple using the Ring callflow element.
1. Setting up a Ring Element
To begin configuring a Ring Callflow, access the Callflow section of the UC-Line Portal [Phone > Callflows] and click on the [Create New Callflow +] button. From the table of elements on the right side, drag the Ring element into the Callflow Designer.
Begin configuring ring options by clicking on the [...] button on the Ring Element, followed by [Settings]. If done correctly, the [Ring Element Settings] window will display.
1. Endpoint Tabs | Tabs 1, 2 and 3 allow you to choose from Users, Devices or Groups as an endpoint. |
2. Off-Net Number Tab | Tab 4 allows you to set an off-net number, such as a mobile number, as an endpoint. |
3. Endpoints List | Tabs 1, 2 and 3 will each show a list of available Users, Devices & Groups on your account which can be set as endpoints by clicking on the [+] to add them to the Selected Destinations. Tab 4 allows users to enter an off-net number as an endpoint. |
4. Selected Destinations | Selected Users, Devices, Groups & Off-Net Numbers will appear here when selected. |
5. Extra Options | Clicking [>] will populate a list of Extra Options which can be applied to the Ring Element. |
To create a Ring Group, choose the users, devices, groups or Off-Net numbers you wish to ring by choosing the [+] next to each one, or enter the off-net number. Each ring group member will appear in the Selected Destinations area. You can also drag them into the Selected Destinations area if you wish.
In the Extra Options section, you can choose to play a media file to the calling party before ringing the devices, what ringtone pattern you would like so you can distinguish calls to this group from others, and what you want to display on the display on the devices, such as which line is ringing instead of just a number. You can find more detailed information on these settings in the “Configuring Ring Elements” mini-guide.
2. Ring Strategies
Now that you have a ring group created, you may want to determine how each device will ring. As an example, you may want to ring them in the order you added them to the group, or ring all at once. You can change the order of those selected using Drag & Drop.
Once you have more than one item in the Selected Destinations area, a new item will appear at the top of the Ring Element Settings window called ‘Strategy:’. Some choices offer a delay in addition to the timeout value entry fields.
Simultaneous | This configuration will ring all destinations at the same time for the timeout value |
Sequential | This configuration rings each destination one-by-one for the Delay time period |
Random | This configuration will ring all destinations at random for the Delay time period, and end after the Timeout period. |
Loop | This configuration will ring every destination, one by one, in the order of entry for the delay time period and will end after the timeout time period. |
When you are done, simply click on [OK] to save the element. Now remember to name the callflow and give it a description. And finally, click on [Save] to save the callflow.
3. Link to a Number
Just like any callflow, you must link the callflow to the number you wish the Ring Group to be applied to. This is done in the Numbers menu. Choose [Phones] from the left navigation pane and select [Numbers].
You can assign this Ring Group callflow to any number, both internal or external, as desired. Simply click on the link or click the
icon and choose the new callflow from the drop-down list.
You’re done! Now this number will ring the group you created.
